Belarusian State Medical University, established in 1921 as part of Belarusian State University, is now a leading medical education institution in Belarus with international recognition. It has 7 faculties—General Medicine, Dentistry, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Faculty for International Students, and Career Guidance—and 2 institutes: the Institute of Military Medicine and the Institute of Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel. Postgraduate PhD course is the first stage of post-graduate education, the purpose of which is to prepare a thesis for the PhD degree. After graduating the student is awarded a scientific qualification «Researcher». The term of study depends on the form of training: full-time – 3 years, by correspondence – 4-5 years. Doctoral course is the second stage of Research-based education, the purpose of which is to prepare a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Science. The term of study is 3 years for full-time and 5 years for correspondence course. Research-based education includes about 50 specialties of medical and biological profile. More than 40 PhD degrees and 3-5 degrees of Doctor of Science are awarded annually. Those who are going to enter the post-graduate course should:

Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) actively fosters global partnerships with over 25 countries, collaborating with foreign universities, scientific centers, and international organizations. BSMU collaborates with organizations like the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), International Association of Universities (IAU), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), WHO Country Office, and Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN). Scientific and Research Division
The Scientific and Research Division, established in 2012 and rooted in the Central Scientific Research Laboratory from 1952, oversees and coordinates BSMU’s scientific and innovative activities. It comprises 4 scientific laboratories and over 20 research groups.
Comparable to a sectoral research institute in scope and resources, the Division manages over 120 research projects annually. These projects lead to new medical care methods and advancements in education, directly benefiting healthcare practices and academic programs in Belarus.
